21 Casablanca, Morocco
We approached Casablanca with all blaring because it was a very thick mist, there was no wind and the sea was very calm.
Casablanca is a port city and commercial hub in western Morocco. We did not organise a tour, because most of them visited mosques which we did not want to do, so we took the shuttle bus into Casablanca and wandered the wall area of old Medina. Of course, we had no map and so we just wandered until we weren't sure where we were but it was a fascinating journey which seemed like going back in time. So much of old Medina seems to be markets some in small enclosures mostly out on the narrow alleyways. It became quite smelly in those areas where meat and fish were being sold because it was a very hot day.
Once we found our way back out of the walled city, thanks to a local lady who very kindly showed us how to get out we felt a lot more comfortable. We then managed to find the shuttle bus and went back to our ship and its air-conditioned comfort for lunch and a well earned rest. We left Casablanca after dark and overnight headed north to Lisbon in Portugal.
