Rhine Cruise #5 - Mainz Germany
Mainz sits alongside the Rhine River about 40km west of Frankfurt. It is the capital city of Rhineland-Palatinate and has a population of around 250,000. The old city dates back to the 1st century BC and was founded by the Romans. Mainz is the birthplace of Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the movable-type printing press, who, in the early 1450s, manufactured his first books in the city, including the Gutenberg Bible. The Gutenberg Museum is well worth a visit as is the Cathedral and old town area.
