Silverton and the Day Dream Mine
Silverton is 26 kilometres north-west of Broken Hill, and now has a population of less than 100.
It was once a very rich mining town, hence the number of old stone buildings, and was surrounded by mines. Today, apart from the Day Dream Mine tourist mine, the Silverton Hotel seems to be the central attraction.
This is another dry and dusty outback area with the vast Mundi Mundi plains, or desert, surrounding it. The town, and the desert, became famous when it was the location chosen to film the Mad Max movies. There is a Mad Max Museum in the town.
