Not the best day to be driving State Hwy 5 over the hills to Napier

Te Harot, a rural hill country in the Hastings District of NZ. On the road between Taupo and Napier

Originally constructed in 1908/9 for the Hawke’s Bay Municipal Offices, this building is the only remaining example of a Victorian-Edwardian classical style architecture in Napier, surviving the 1931 Napier earthquake that impacted most of the buildings of that era.

Napier Municipal Theatre

The former Public Trust Office, was completed in 1922, and was said to have been reinforced by railway line steel. It substantially survived the 1931 earthquake, but was damaged and needed some major reconditioning and strengthening over five months. The style of the building is classical revival.

Foreshore walkway along Napier's Ocean Beach (in the Rain!)

Anchor from HMS Tui, This anchor sits beside the foreshore walkway along Marine Parade. It reflects the connection between the city and the sea. It is from the former Oceanographic Research vessel HMNZS Tui. It was presented to the city of Napier from the Royal New Zealand Navy ten years after the Tui was scuttled in February 1999.
