Waratah - Mining History & a Waterfalls
Waratah, is situated on the eastern edge of the Tarkine region of north west Tasmania. It was originally constructed to support a tin mine at Mount Bischoff. The town sits at the top of the Waratah Falls. Water was diverted to the mine for sluicing and processing. Today it is a small community, the mine having been out of action for many years, but attempts are being made to restart it. There is a good RV camping area in the centre of the town, close to the waterfall, Museum, and Tarkine Interpretation Centre in the historic Athenaeum Hall.
