Point Lonsdale to Torquay
Point Lonsdale is on the western side of the entrance to Port Philip Bay known as the Narrows or The RIP. The latter is because many lives have been lost as ships tried to navigate their way into the bay. There are now three lighthouses to assist ships passing through the Narrows, Point Lonsdale and then two at Queenscliff. Whilst not officially the start of the Great Ocean Road (GOR) it is the most easterly point of the road along the south coast road west of Melbourne. It is where we started our journey west along the coast.
